With all of her solid surface devoid of life, Prithvi paid little attention to the land. Her apathy caused her not to notice the landing of the travelers whose journey had taken them across the vastness of Space seeking such a home as Prithvi unwittingly provided. But as she watched life struggling to gain a foothold on her surface, the travelers caught her attention. Their alien presence was disturbing. Sensing that they had at last been discovered by their host, the travelers spoke with Prithvi and an unlikely partnership was formed.
“We will work with you,” they said. “We will be your partner,” they continued.
“How?” came Prithvi’s tentative response.
By their own fruition and infused with the Law, the travelers, whom Prithvi came to know collectively as Sojourner, began building themselves into monumental creatures who towered above the solid surface of Prithvi. Inhabiting the rock shorelines surrounding the fertile seas, they began to consume and digest Prithvi’s rock. The byproduct of this process was redeposited as a soft and pliable material into which plants set dowm roots and began to make the first tentative steps away from the water.
As Sojourner continued to digest her surface, life forms began to inhabit all available space just as it had done in the ocean. As a result, all life forms were derivatives of previous versions. Those with adaptations that were favorable spread this information to their offspring who in turn spread it to theirs. Adaptations that were not favorable caused many lines to end. This was the case for all life.
Although she could not directly impact the direction that life took, by willfully moving her land masses through use of the molten liquid just under their surface, she could change the levels of the water surrounding the land and disrupt currents in the seas affecting water and land temperatures. This action caused strain, hardship, and adaptation or annihilation. Several times throughout her billions of trips around her star, in what could be considered a fit of artistic boredom, Prithvi blew from her interior quantities of noxious gases and fumes, enough to choke out much of the oxygen-dependent life inhabiting her.
As intended, these events wiped the canvas clean. Surviving life forms found vacated niches where they could gain a new foothold and evolve in accordance with the Law. She was delighted to have Sojourner as a partner, tirelessly working to create hospitable habitats and self-perpetuating ecosystems for the exploding diversity of life. And during these long periods of development, oftentimes she would rest.
It was during one of these periods that Prithvi was thrown out of her slumber by a violent force that she had not felt since her formation. The asteroid, long ago knocked out of its orbit in the outer belt, ended its trajectory in a violent collision with her surface. The resulting explosion upended millions of tons of rock, thrusting it high into her atmosphere. Melted by the heat of the cataclysmic event, the rock fell back onto her surface as pebbles of shiny glass.
The awareness of the destruction to life on her surface dawned slowly. She became one with the vegetation as it burned and witnessed the suffering of other life forms. Entire species were annihilated by the explosion and ensuing fires. And those that survived this cataclysm experienced a gradual, but just as deadly, decline as the cloud around her blocked the energy of her Light and transitioned into a heavy gas similar to the emissions she willfully pushed forth from her interior at a more creative time in her history.
